Top 10 Must Have Winter Accessories for Women

It’s fall already, winter is no far and well, now is the time to stock up on your winter essentials ladies. You do not want to go in the store and see all the fresh stock gone, do you? I shopped my winter collection from GAP and Zara and I was mighty impressed with the stocks they had in mid July in their Champs Elysees store in Paris. The point I am trying to make is that they make winter stock the year round and you must stock up on it before everybody else has it already. I am craving to save for that Burberry Cashmere Wool Scarf and Lanvin Gloves though. They’d have been my best buy from every winter ever! Here’s what each of you ladies must buy before winter comes!

10. No more snow bites : Sheepskin Uggs
Actually I’d rather no sheepskin Uggs but those that are still furry and keep you warm. Aeropostale impresses me with their collection but I have mine from last year from Carlton London. They look like boots, except they are triply comfortable, warm and soft. They’d slide on like cotton and look as stylish with your knit skirt as they would over your denims. Got your Uggs Girls?

Look Polar Vortex Chic in 6 Easy Steps

Okay, we get it, it’s freezing outside!  The entire upper continental US is currently suffering record low temperatures (Temps in Minnesota were lower than those on Mars a couple weeks ago), but that doesn’t mean your sense of style has to be thrown out into the, well, cold.  Polar Vortex Chic is a thing this winter, or at least Her Campus is making it one.  Instead of throwing on a gigantic puffer coat and tattered UGGs, try these easy and stylish tricks to be the cutest snow bunny on campus.

1. Supersize your scarf
Trust the Europeans on this one: everything is chicer (and warmer) with a large scarf on.  Tie the ends together and loop a large, blanket-like scarf around your neck to you’re your look instantaneously more stylish and more comfortable, even when you’re trekking to class in subzero temperatures.  The bigger, the better!

20 Style Tips On How To Wear Slip-On Sneakers

Move over, painful heels and uncomfortable flats: slip-on sneakers are super trendy right now, and I literally could not be happier about it.

I first noticed that slip-on sneakers (a more chic version of a regular lace-up sneaker) were back in style when I saw them gracing the pages of my favorite magazines and looking cute on some famous style bloggers, like Sincerely Jules, over the summer. Then I went to New York Fashion Week this month, and noticed not one, but a lot of super stylish people prancing around in adorable slip-on sneakers. Some were pairing them with jeans and a cute top, but a lot of people were unexpectedly wearing them with fancier dresses.

20 Style Tips On How To Wear Sneakers

Sneakers are enjoying a huge fashion moment right now. We’re at a point where it’s completely socially acceptable to wear sneakers outside of the gym or a sport, and that’s amazing because sneakers are so comfortable! I’ve seen models wearing sneakers with high fashion outfits in magazine spreads, I’ve seen important fashion editors sporting them at New York Fashion Week, and I’ve seen many a pair pop up on some of my favorite style blogs.

Slip-on sneakers are particularly big right now, but if you’d rather go for something a little more sporty and fun, you need to go for regular sneakers – you know, like Nike, Adidas, New Balance, etc. Take advantage of one of the comfiest fall fashion trends, and get yourself a pair of sneaks that you can wear with anything. Not sure how to go about it? I wasn’t either, since I’m so used to pairing my sneakers with workout leggings. Here are 20 style tips on how to wear sneakers – which are way more versatile than you thought!

1. Keep it simple with jeans, a tee and a beanie. This literally could not be easier.

Leggings are THE BEST, all caps necessary. I don’t think there is a more comfortable piece of clothing than leggings. I also don’t think there is a more controversial piece of clothing than leggings, at least on Gurl.com. You guys either love leggings and think they should be worn every way possible, or you’re not that into them and firmly believe they are not a substitute for pants.

No matter how you feel about leggings, though, I guarantee there is an outfit idea in here that you’ll love. Throw away your jeans and grab your favorite pair of leggings, because I think that’s all you’re going to want to wear after reading this post (okay, that’s drastic, don’t throw away your jeans. You’ll need them one day). Here are 20 style tips on how to wear leggings:

WHAT IS NOT BUSINESS CASUAL ATTIRE FOR WOMEN?
Trying to decipher what business casual attire for women can be a little difficult. Here are some points to keep in mind next time you need to put together a business casual outfit.

What To Wear With A Pencil Skirt – Stylish At Work

HOW TO WEAR AN ALL GRAY OUTFIT TO WORK
If you’re looking for a flattering and versatile skirt for the office I would have to suggest the pencil skirt. Whether you pair it with a feminine blouse or masculine shirt, have it tucked in, or paired with a matching blazer a pencil skirt will always look stylish, if worn correctly.

You might be wondering what to wear with a pencil skirt and there are a variety of ways a pencil skirt can be styled but today we’re going to discuss how to wear it to work.

WHAT TO WEAR WITH A PENCIL SKIRT
In this outfit I paired the gorgeous gray pencil skirt with a striped button down with contrasting cuffs. The thin vertical lines in the skirt look great against the thicker, bolder stripes on the blouse. When combining two striped pieces such as this make sure the stripes are different in size as it will keep the outfit from looking too crazy and busy.

Along with the gray striped button down I wore a gray tote and leopard heels. This monochrome outfit is a stylish and professional option for the office.

Along with answering what to wear with a pencil skirt I wanted to share a few things you should have in mind when it comes to fit.

PENCIL SKIRT FIT AND LENGTH
Two important details that you must pay attention to when it comes to a pencil skirt is the length and the fit. A pencil skirt is usually most flattering when the hem ends around the knees. It can be slightly above or below but usually not any shorter. The skirt should also be fitted around the waist and hips but not too tight.

If the waistband is a bit too snug and difficult to sit then it’s too tight. You know a piece is too tight when you start to see horizontal lines form across the hips. Fit is critical for work as you want to be comfortable – so make sure the length and fit are perfect so you feel stylish and confident. You shouldn’t have to fuss with your clothes at the office because what you need to be focusing on is the work in front of you.

TUCK IN YOUR SHIRT
If you wear a high waist skirt or a skirt with a thicker waistband then a blouse would look best tucked in.

Personally, I always wear my shirts tucked in when wearing a pencil skirt. There are many positives to wearing your shirt tucked in: it creates a slimmer waist, makes the look more sophisticated, which is especially appropriate for the office, and for the petite gals (like me) it creates the illusion of longer legs.

As you can see from the photos, the gray color palette and vertical lines help to elongate my figure by creating nice long lines. To keep this outfit from looking “stuffy”, I rolled up my shirt sleeves and had the dark cuffs peaking out for an extra touch of attitude.

The finishing touch for this wear to work look: leopard heels. The leopard heels help add pattern, color, texture, sexiness, and attitude to this stylish at work outfit. Yes a pair of heels can add so much to an office outfit!

DRESS STYLISH EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT
On another note, I feel like I need to share this because some mornings you may feel the same way.

Getting ready every morning can feel like a chore. Especially when you feel like you have nothing to wear, that’s the worst. Getting dressed in this outfit the other day was hard! My love affair with clothes doesn’t make me immune to feeling like I don’t know what to wear and I get a bit frustrated when I can’t seem to put together a decent outfit.

But when you don’t want to “dress nice” is when you especially need to. Remember, “you’re not always going to feel like it but successful people do it anyways.” After huffing and puffing about not knowing what to wear I ended up putting together this very stylish outfit for the office. I know there are many other important things going on in the world but when you feel put together you are more confident and are able to take on anything!

Don’t take getting dressed in the morning lightly because it sets the tone for the rest of your day!

What To Wear In Italy – 5 Tips To Look Stylish In Florence

ANSWERING THE QUESTION – WHAT TO WEAR IN ITALY
Is there anything more wonderful than hopping on a plane and jetting off to somewhere fabulous?

For the fashion conscious woman there may be no better trip than to head to Italy. Home to amazing architecture, beautiful food, beautiful people and beautifully designed houses, Italy ticks off many travel to do items. Before jettisoning off, you may be wondering what to wear in Italy.

Here is my quick guide, which will have you looking great, while leaving room in your suitcase to go shopping.

WEAR NEUTRAL COLORS
When wondering what to wear in Italy in the winter, a great option is to work with neutrals. Black, navy, white, grey, beige and blush work well almost all of the time. With these neutrals you can create many different looks.

For instance, when wondering what to wear in Italy for brunch, put together skinny black pants, a white shirt and a black blazer. When wondering what to wear in Italy for the opera, keep the white shirt, pair this with a black pencil skirt and change the blazer for a plain black cashmere sweater. Being able to mix and match makes your vacation wardrobe more versatile. Less is more.

LAYER YOUR LOOK
In Florence, Italy in the winter daytime temperatures generally fall in the 50’s and drop into the high 30’s at night. During the day you will generally be able to get away with a light jacket or simple long sleeved T. During the evening, transition to a blazer and scarf or trench coat.

If you plan to be out and about, running around town, layers perfectly answer the riddle of what to wear in Italy in the winter.

A SCARF IS ESSENTIAL
Nora Ephron, the amazing writer and director, was quoted as saying that she felt bad about her neck. She advised us all to begin wearing scarves at 43, in order to hide aging secrets. She also reminds us with her wit and whimsy to have fun, chase love and be strong. No matter your age, when wondering what to wear in Italy, be sure you have a scarf. Not only will a scarf keep you warm when there is a winter chill in the air, but a scarf adds interest to an outfit.

When you are wondering what to wear for dinner, and all that is clean is a t-shirt and jeans, throw on a scarf. A scarf makes the outfit seem chosen. The care for the outfit can then translate to confidence. In the end, you look stylish, have created a layer of visual interest and will stay warm when sipping wine at a cafe.

COMFORTABLE YET STYLISH SHOES
When out on vacation, somewhere as fantastic as Florence, Italy, it can be tempting to want to wear your most amazing shoes. However, when considering footwear, look for items which will let you look fabulous and be fabulous. Four inch, red soled, beautiful heels are great for dinner when you arrive at and are subsequently picked up at, the door. These same shoes are not good for walking the cobblestone streets of Florence.

Flats are what to wear in Italy. Look for something stylish that has the right arch support. A leopard print kitten heel or ballet flat dresses up an outfit but is easy on the ankles.

Additionally, as Jenna Lyons of J. Crew has said, leopard is a neutral. Wear this with your other neutrals and you will always be spot on with what to wear in Italy.

WHEN IN DOUBT
When in doubt about what to wear in Italy, opt for a look which is more dressy than casual.

Carefully consider what you will be doing that day. If you are starting your morning out with a stroll around town and a bite at a hidden gem restaurant, skinny pants, a white T-shirt and a scarf is just fine. However, if you will be checking out an art gallery or show later in the evening, the simple look mentioned above will not cut it.

A blazer can be a girl’s best friend while traveling in Italy. Being dressed up means you are never out of place. To dress the look up even more, a statement necklace or great pair of earrings works well to give you that little bit of bling.

Travel in Style

With these tips for what to wear in Italy this winter, you will be able to look flawless whether you will be checking out “David” at Accademia Gallery or you are on the hunt for the perfect glass of wine.

What To Wear When You Have Nothing To Wear – Part 1

CRISP WHITE SHIRT AND DARK WASH DENIM
We’ve all been there — standing in front of our closet freaking out because we have nothing to wear. I usually think, “how can this be? I thought I had way more clothes than this… where did it all go?” In a panic, I toss my clothes left and right trying to put together a decent outfit with no luck, which happens to me more often than I’d like to admit. But on these days I do have a couple of fall back outfits. By this I mean — outfits that I can always count on. Outfits that I know will work for every occasion so I never have to worry about looking like I got dressed in the dark.

Since I believe I’m not the only one with this problem, I thought I would have a outfit post series on, “What to Wear When You Have Nothing to Wear.” Brilliant right? In the next couple of weeks I will share with you outfits that are my safety nets, my life savers, my fall backs, my assurance, my… well you get the picture.

For outfit number one in this series I’m wearing; a crisp white top, dark wash denim and a pair of heels. This outfit is pretty much a win every time. If you don’t have a crisp white top in your closet then you need to find one! Invest in a shirt that you can wear over and over again and doesn’t get worn out after the 10th time wearing it. Pair the top with dark wash denim, I prefer dark wash because it always makes you looking longer and leaner as opposed to a light wash. Add a pair of cute heels and you’re done.

I would love to know if you have an outfit that you always turn to – let me know in the comments!

A Chic Way To Wear A Tie Dye Shirt

WHAT DO YOU WEAR WITH A TIE DYE SHIRT?
If tie dye brings pictures of 1960’s hippies with long hair, braids, and rose-colored sunglasses it’s time to rip that tie dye out of t-shirts and tunics and bring it into the present. You can wear tie-dye in a sophisticated and stylish outfit that will make people look twice.

The current day tie dye pieces are no longer the oversized rainbow t-shirts that don’t fit, well, they are still available but you shouldn’t wear them. Tie dye has been transformed into chic dresses, moody silk tanks and sexy skirts. What’s even more appealing with tie dye is that each piece is unique. Each tie dye piece is different so when you buy a tie dyed piece you have something that is uniquely yours. Just like the tie dye shirt I’m wearing in this outfit.

But how do you wear tie dye shirt without looking like a colorful mess?

As with most trends and poppy pieces, don’t overdo it. Only wear one tie dye piece at a time. You shouldn’t wear tie dye pants with matching a tie dye shirt – go with one or the other, not both.

Wear your tie dye shirt or shorts with neutrals. In this outfit, I wore this tie dye shirt with black jeans and a blazer. This made the tie dye shirt the main focus of the outfit and brought color to this outfit without making it look too tie dye crazy. I also wanted to create a strong contrast so I went with black instead of say white or a darker blue. This is especially important if you wear a tie dye dress make sure your accessories, purse, blazer, jacket and heels are neutral.

Look for tie-dye in darker hues or pale, water colored hues. These colors will create a sophisticated look and keep you looking classy. Stay away from the bright rainbow color palettes. If you do want to wear something a little brighter go with a piece that has colors in the same color palette; such as turquoise, aqua and blue as opposed to orange, hot pink, lime green.

So, what other pieces could you wear in tie dye besides a tie dye shirt? The answer really depends on how adventurous you are. You can stick with a tank top, such as I have, or wear it in accessories, denim jackets, shorts, dresses, skirts, anything really. You can wear any piece you want in tie dye as long as you follow the three points I made above.

If you’re looking to make a big statement, tie dye jeans will do it without a doubt. I wore tie dye jeans sometime ago, they were white denim with purple patterns. With such statement pants the rest of the outfit needs to be neutral without much fuss.

What To Wear When You Have Nothing To Wear – Part 2

BLACK BLAZER, JEANS AND STATEMENT NECKLACE
For part II of my ‘What to Wear When You Have Nothing to Wear’ series, I decided to wear something I know you have in your closet. The very important essentials: versatile black blazer, jeans and a statement necklace. (Check out Part I in case you missed it!) The primary item in this outfit is of course the statement necklace because without it all you have is a basic outfit with no pizazz. I wear this outfit whenever I’m in a pinch for time.

It’s very easy to add your own personality to this outfit. All you have to do is switch up the shoes and statement necklace. If you want something a little classier wear a statement pearl necklace, if you want to add a little bit of sexy wear a pair of high heeled sandals, which are very popular right now. You can even switch up the color of the shirt or wear something with pattern. You see, once you have the base of the outfit it’s up to you to decide how to make it your own. For my outfit, I decided to wear my favorite pair of leopard pumps and something large and jeweled for my statement piece.

How would you add your own personal touch to this outfit! Let me know in the comments below!
