HOW TO WEAR A JUMPSUIT
I’m a fan of jumpsuits! Even though I don’t wear them often, I’ve always like how fancy they look and how this one piece can make a complete outfit. As a dress, it’s one and done.
I know I’m not alone when wondering how to wear a jumpsuit. They can be a little intimidating and if not worn correctly can look sloppy or make you look shorter or wider than you are. There’s a reason you mainly see white or black jumpsuits. It’s the easiest to wear, and you don’t run the worry of looking like a trendy fool in a crazy printed jumpsuit.
Personally, like with most of my clothing, I opt for the more classic and elegant pieces. I do love a color, print, and different textures but with my petite frame I have to be careful or pieces can swallow me whole.
Let’s review how to wear a jumpsuit and the points you should keep in mind next time you’re putting together a jumpsuit outfit.
5 STYLE TIPS ON WEARING A JUMPSUIT
1 FIND THE PERFECT FIT
Finding a jumpsuit that fits your body perfectly is key to looking polished and put together. Don’t wear anything too tight or too loose.
If you wear a jumpsuit that’s too tight, you might give off that catwomen vibe, and you might feel uncomfortable. If you wear a jumpsuit that is too loose, you will completely lose your figure, and the jumpsuit will overwhelm your body.
The jumpsuit I’m wearing in this outfit post is a halter top, cinched at the waist with a wide leg. It’s not too big or too small, and I’m able to show off my figure by showing the right amount of skin with the halter top.
2 DEFINE YOUR WAIST
I have to emphasize the point of not losing your figure. A lot of jumpsuits have either a cloth belt or you can easily add your belt to define your waist. Cinching your jumpsuit at the waist is a great way to add some femininity to the look and give you that curvy look.
In this white jumpsuit, I’m wearing I double wrapped the cloth waist belt to define my waist. I could have also added a gold or black belt to add some dimension, but I wanted to show that you don’t need to look much stylish in a jumpsuit.
3 PAIR IT WITH A BLAZER
I like to add dimensions to my outfits! Even though the white jumpsuit could stand alone, I wanted to show you how you can easily add a blazer to give it your personality.
If you’re never worn a jumpsuit before adding a blazer will make you feel more comfortable than without. It breaks up the look and adds a layer to make the jumpsuit more subtle.
When selecting a blazer or jacket go with one that enhances the jumpsuits and goes with the occasion.
I wanted to create an elegant look with this jumpsuit, so I selected a black tuxedo like a blazer with split personalities. It’s a tuxedo blazer in the front but looks like a cape from behind.
Pick color tones that are similar to your jumpsuit or contrasting. Like in my outfit black and white. Or if you’re wearing a pretty floral jumpsuit you might want to wear a light rose blazer. Just make sure the two items match.
4 WEAR HEELS WITH WIDE LEG JUMPSUIT
If you’re wearing a wide leg jumpsuit like I am, you need to wear heels. Wearing heels is a style rule I follow because I have a petite frame, and I don’t want to look even shorter I want to create the illusion that I’m super tall.
If I were to wear this wide leg jumpsuit with sandals or flats, the bottom half would look pretty sloppy. It would look like I’m wearing a jumpsuit that doesn’t fit, and I would look shorter.
Wide leg jumpsuits can overpower a small frame so make sure you’re pairing it with skinny heels.
5 WEAR A SOLID JUMPSUIT
If you’re a jumpsuit virgin ease into it and wear a solid black or white jumpsuit. If you’re daring, wear a colored solid, like navy, blush, burgundy, or olive green.
But Black is always a slimming choice!
A solid jumpsuit is elongating since it’s one unbroken vertical line the eye moves easily up and down without interruption.
Once you feel comfortable in a black or white jumpsuit experiment by adding some pattern or splashes of color.
OTHER TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN WEARING A JUMPSUIT JUMPSUITS CAN BE WORN TO FORMAL OCCASIONS
A jumpsuit can easily be dressed up for a formal event. If the style of the jumpsuit is appropriate, then all you have to do is accessorize it to fit the party.
The white jumpsuit I’m wearing in this outfit is a classic feminine jumpsuit with a pleated halter. Since it’s more classy in the style, I could easily dress it up with heels, black tuxedo blazer, gold accessories and a dainty handbag. I also wore my hair is a fancy bun to go with the style of the outfit.
I can easily wear this to a formal event and standout because of the jumpsuit and stylish accessories.
LOOSE CUT IS MORE FLATTERING
Finding a perfectly draped jumpsuit is gold. It’s not just because I’m modest, but loose jumpsuits that drape your figure are more flattering than skin tight jumpsuits.
It will make you look more elegant and taller. Your waist is defined and with a wider leg your waist will look even slimmer.
