20 Style Tips On How To Wear A Denim Skirt This Fall

When I first heard that denim skirts were coming back into style a few years ago, I was very conflicted. The mere mention of the clothing item gave me embarrassing flashbacks to the early 2000s, when myself and every other girl I knew pranced around in $95 ripped up denim skirts from Abercrombie & Fitch with Ugg boots on our feet. These aren’t the most pleasant style memories! Needless to say, I wasn’t super excited about the return of the denim mini skirt. But now that it’s been a few years, and I’ve seen what they’ve become, I have to admit it: I am so beyond thrilled they’re back, guys. Denim skirts are awesome.

For one thing, the denim skirts of ~today~ are much more chic looking – the button front versions are my personal favorites. They’re a perfect casual wardrobe essential and I firmly believe everyone should have one. They’re also more versatile than you would think – although denim skirts seem like they would only work for spring and summer weather, they actually look just as great in the fall. All you have to do is add some layers, maybe a cute pair of boots, some tights… and you’ve got a really great autumn look. Need more convincing? Check out these style tips on how to wear denim skirts this fall with lots of outfit ideas and inspiration:

1. Add a cozy scarf. A plaid scarf automatically makes any outfit look perfect for fall. You can wear your denim skirt on even the chilliest days with tights, a cozy sweater, and a big scarf.

2. Throw a leather jacket on. A leather jacket is another perfect fall addition to any outfit, and aside from keeping you warm. If you want a darker look, opt for a black denim skirt instead of original denim.

3. Tuck in a plaid shirt. A super easy fall outfit? It’s a denim skirt, a plaid shirt tucked in with a skinny belt, and a pair of comfortable, chic ankle boots.

4. Or wear the plaid shirt open. If you want a more relaxed vibe, wear your denim skirt with a plain tee and layer with an open plaid shirt. It’s super laid back and comfortable.

5. Front tuck a big sweater. Go for a disheveled but chic look by front tucking an oversized sweater into your skirt. Heeled ankle boots keep it from looking sloppy.

6. Go for a classic look with a trench coat and striped shirt. Wear your denim skirt with a striped shirt and a classic trench coat. Add sneakers to keep the outfit low-key.

7. Keep it professional with a fitted blazer. A denim skirt that hits at the knees becomes more professional looking with a fitted blazer and a pair of stylish heels.

8. Wear a black denim skirt with black tights. Tights are essential for chilly days, and black tights with a black denim skirt looks incredibly stylish. Add some ankle boots and a bright sweater.

9. Keep things interesting with a standout piece, like a velvet blazer. Give your denim skirt a more unique vibe by wearing it with something bold, like a denim blazer.

10. Skip the tights and go for thigh high boots instead. Wear your denim skirt with thigh high boots. It’s an unexpected combo, but it looks awesome.

11. Pair your skirt with rain boots. Make even rainy days look chic by wearing your rain boots with a denim skirt and tights. It looks like you tried much harder than you did.

12. Add heels for some sophistication. Denim skirts don’t have to be super casual – a pair of patterned heels automatically elevates your skirt, especially if it hits at your knees.

13. Wear your denim skirt with another vintage looking item. Denim skirts are slightly vintage looking, and they have that vibe even more when you pair them with another vintage inspired piece – like this shaggy shearling coat.

14. Get cozy with a giant cardigan. Sometimes all you need to do is add one layer to transition a look from summer to fall. A giant, cozy cardigan does the trick with a denim skirt.

15. Wear boots that hit at the same spot your skirt ends. Who needs tights when you have knee high boots and a mid-length denim skirt? This look is perfect for chilly fall days.

16. Add a hat and a pair of flats for a more feminine vibe. Pair your skirt with a sleeveless turtleneck, a pair of lace-up flats, and a cute hat.

17. Add cozy accessories, like a beanie and thick tights. A denim skirt looks perfect with a cozy sweater, tights, ankle boots, and a beanie.

18. Opt for denim midi skirt instead of mini skirt. Midi skirts are big for fall, so combine two trends into one! This is a super unique piece and looks great with some basics.

19. Add a hat and Oxford shoes for a preppier vibe. Stay comfortable and fashionable with a big scarf, warm sweater, a hat, and some Oxford shoes.

20. Add a loose poncho as a boho layer. Take your boho vibe into fall with a denim skirt, loose poncho, and nice ankle boots.
